DUBAI – International Cricket Council has released a statement in which it clearly pointed that there is no intention to call-off India vs Pakistan matches in the World Cup 2019. Following the Pulwama attack in which over 40 CRPF personnel were killed, there is a huge protest against Pakistan. People also want India to avoid playing against Pakistan. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is scheduled to begin from May 30. ICC Chief Executive Dave Richardson said that there is no decision about the cancellation of the planned matches between India and Pakistan in the world cup 2019.
Dave Richardson condemned the horrible terrorist attack in Pulwama and offered his condolence to the people affected due to it. However, he said there is no stand of the ICC members about canceling the World cup matches between India and Pakistan. Further, Richardson said sports especially has an important role to play to improve the relations between the two nations. He also mentioned that ICC members are keeping an eye on this issue and nothing major has been meditated on this topic.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident and we will be monitoring the situation with our Members,” Richardson said while talking to PTI. In addition to this, he said, “There is no indication that any (of the) matches at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will not go ahead as planned. Sports, in particular, cricket, has the wonderful ability to bring people together and unite communities and we will work with our Members on that basis.”
Veteran Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh said India should not play any match with Pakistan in the World Cup 2019. He further said country always comes first and that Indian team should offer solidarity to martyred soldiers by refusing to play with Pakistan. What happened in Pulwama was not an ignorable thing as such incidents are taking place repeatedly and many of our gallant soldiers sacrifice their lives in every such incident. However, BCCI officials have no clarity about the cancellation of the world cup matches between the two neighboring countries.
