Youtube took a step to protect children from predators on the video platform, by banning them to stream live videos on youtube. Google-owned Youtube has restricted the kids’ direct presence on the streaming website by posting a blog post. Youtube said in the post, that it is limiting the videos which show minor in a critical situation. The updated policies will come in February 2020.
The announcement of Youtube came after the streaming service was blamed for showing children in partial clothing to sexual content seekers. Youtube has focused its attention on the issue and restricted the algorithm of video recommendation system to not recommend kids’ video to sexual content seekers. Later, Youtube curbed 10 million such videos which were in the recommendations.
It will further keep showing these videos shot with best adult cams to users but not to specific users seeking sexual content approach. Youtube has also indicated that the platform will work with law enforcement agencies to investigate the crimes against minors.
Youtube has been blamed and targeted for years for its inability to stop inappropriate content on the platform, especially videos related to minors. Earlier some cases were seen where child predators were involved in sexually coded comments on minors’ video. Hence Youtube banned live-streamed broadcasts by children “unless an adult accompanies them.”
Youtube also cleared that it has added artificial intelligence classifiers to remove live videos and other content related to children. Channel who runs such videos will not be allowed to stream videos in the future.
