LOS ANGELES – Yesterday, fans of Nipsey Hussle across Los Angeles came together to celebrate the life of a native son of Los Angeles, who died last month on March 31st. Nipsey Hussle was born in Ermias Ashgedom on August 15th, 1985.
The event happened in the same 21,000 seater arena where Michael Jackson’s celebration of life was held ten years ago.
Hussle was shot dead in front of his Marathon Clothing store last month. During the memorial, his body was taken on a funeral procession of about 25miles around streets where he grew up, and streets he was in the middle of uplifting before his death. Some of such streets are the neighborhood where the famous Rodney King Race riot occurred in 1992, and also through the street where the aging strip mall he was set to turn to new businesses and affordable homes, before it finally arrived at the funeral home in the city’s hard-scrabble Crenshaw district. Thousands of his fans turned up to pay their last respect to the iconic rapper.
When speaking about the planned funeral rites of the pop star, Glauz Diego, an executive of the Los Angeles Community Coalitions said although he is not a close follower of Hussle’s music, he will be on the street paying his last respect to the pop star.
David Schonfeld, a professor on how and why people grieve at USC, said there is a reason why people have decided to turn up in thousands during the funeral procession. He said people who didn’t know him personally heard he has a kind soul and thus pity him for dying at such a tender age.
